It was the same every year.

Harry would tear into his gifts with the enthusiasm of a twelve year old, while Draco and Severus would watch him over their glasses of champagne casting amused glances at one another. Then Draco would open his gifts, slowly and carefully, displaying sure hands and dexterous fingers.

Everything Draco did was sexy.

They would usually have to take a break midway through because Severus always gave Draco candy canes and all of the licking and sucking drove them to think about other things that could be licked and sucked. Before they knew it they would be on the floor, touching and grasping and moaning and wishing one another a very Merry Christmas indeed.

Every year they would keep their main presents from one another until last. Severus would open the gifts first, always looking a little bemused at the level of affection bestowed on him by his younger lovers.

"Draco, this is just wonderful…a first edition…where on earth did you find it?"

“It wasn’t easy, Severus, I have means and ways however.”

Draco smirked and Harry watched Severus trace a long finger down the spine of a hideously complex looking potions book. He gulped nervously as Severus turned to open his gift from Harry.

“Good lord, Potter, what is this?”

A little yellow-furred nose peeked out of a box and leapt into Serverus’ arms, licking his face with enthusiasm.

“It’s a puppy!” Harry looked at the adorable little face of the puppy and reached a hand out to stroke him. The puppy promptly nipped at Harry’s hand.

Draco snickered. “He looks like a live one, Harry.”

“What on earth made you think I would be a puppy person, Potter?” Severus watched the dog with a horrified look as the cute little animal continued to quite literally make puppy dog eyes at him.

“What do you want to call him?”

“Let’s see…he looks like he’s going to be quite a handful, full of boundless enthusiasm and he is extremely naughty”. Severus scowled at the puppy which was scrabbling up his chest and had begun enthusiastically licking his face again, “Could I suggest we call him Harry?”

Draco laughed and reached out to pet the little dog which scampered across the room and jumped into his arms, with an excited ‘woof’. “My, my Harry – you are an enthusiastic little pup, aren’t
you?” Draco and Severus had laughed together as the pup had gone back to Harry to nip at his hands again.

That had been their first Christmas together.

The second Christmas, Harry thought he would take a different approach. If cute didn’t work then throwing his galleons around as Draco did might just be the answer.

“Harry this is just wonderful…what a delightful gift.”

“You like it then?” Harry bounced excitedly, watching Draco who was eyeing the gift closely, spinning it around in his hands.

“Well, I love it of course…” Harry caught a look pass between Draco and Severus and saw Severus shrug, his lips quirking in a small smile.

“What was that look for?”

“Well…” Draco paused, fingering the gift and looking at Harry with a sheepish smile. “I’m just not entirely sure what it is, Potter.”

Harry sputtered as puppy-Harry went to sit next to Draco looking curiously at the gift with a slight bark and a low growl.

“It’s the sell-out Christmas gift that everybody wants – the cashmere Hippogriff from Madame Malkins, the one they have been using in all of their adverts for their Wizard’s in Wool range? I had to queue for bloody ages to get this, I camped out and everything and I had to play the Harry Potter card. You love cashmere!”

“Oh of course…that Hippogriff.”

“Horace.”

“Yes of course. Look Severus, isn’t he adorable.” Draco stroked the soft cashmere against his cheek and nodded enthusiastically, “He’s lovely and soft, Harry.”

Severus had admired the cashmere Hippogriff obviously trying to hide his look of disdain as Draco glared at him and shook his head softly.

Severus had then given Draco some Malfoy family items which Lucius had entrusted to Severus’ care until Draco turned twenty one. Draco had spent the rest of the day pouring over old photo albums, touching the various items with awe and welling up with tears of gratitude every time he looked up at Severus.

Harry had gone to bed early that evening.

This year, it was going to be different.

Harry waited with bated breath as they finally reached his gifts and Snape began to open his present from Draco. The dragon hide gloves for his potions work were luxurious and elegant and Severus stroked them with his fingers nodding his gratitude to Draco.

Finally Severus unwrapped his gift from Harry.

“My First Chemistry Kit,” Snape frowned at the colourful box with a young boy and girl wearing goggles pouring brightly coloured mixtures into test tubes, “Ages 5 years and up.” Draco was looking away from Harry, his shoulders shaking as Severus continued to look down at the box, the corner of his mouth raising in a small smile.

“It’s a Muggle chemistry set. I thought it might be fun, because you like Potions so much. It will be interesting, right?”

“Yes, Potter. I’m sure I will get a lot of enjoyment out of it, thank you.” Severus set the gift down and puppy-Harry promptly went over to it, sniffing at it and pushing it with his nose.

Harry frowned. That hadn’t gone down at all as he had expected it might.

Draco turned to his gift from Severus. The gift box opened to reveal a large, hard backed book, bound in expensive looking leather with elegant silver script on the front.

“Severus, this is…”

“It’s something I have been working on for many years, Draco. I edited your notes and extensive research on lycanthropy and sent the final product to a publisher. They consider your work, as do I, to be ground breaking. The book will be available in the New Year.”

Harry’s eyes boggled at the book as he reached over to look at the front cover.

Living with Lycanthropy – By Draco Malfoy edited by Severus Snape

Harry felt an irrational surge of jealousy, seeing the two names linked together and reinforcing for him the things which Severus and Draco had in common which he loved and supported, but which he didn’t fully understand. He looked down at the book, knowing he was being childish but feeling impossibly sad for a moment.

Draco turned to Harry’s gift which was in a large envelope and Harry wiggled nervously, waiting for Draco to open the envelope. Reaching inside, Draco pulled out a certificate of authentication and looked at it with a small, half smile.

“You bought me a star, Potter?”

“I had a star named after you, Draco.” Harry nodded enthusiastically. “You have your own star. Isn’t that cool?”

Severus cleared his throat obviously masking a chuckle and Draco trailed his finger over the certificate. Harry frowned.

“What’s so bloody funny?”

“Nothing, Potter – it’s a very thoughtful gift.” Draco moved closer to Harry and put his arms around him, pulling him into a kiss. Harry relished the feeling of Draco’s tongue sliding against his own and he moved closer into the kiss. He could still hear Severus trying to stifle his chuckles and Draco appeared to be laughing into the kiss. It was horribly distracting.

Harry didn’t understand. It was another shared joke between Severus and Draco, something that went over Harry’s head and made him feel confused. The horrible sad ache began again in the pit of his stomach as he looked over to the tree and realised for the first time that all of the gifts had been unwrapped and that Harry didn’t have his own two gifts waiting to be opened.

He looked at the empty space which puppy-Harry was currently sitting in, the slow, sick feeling building in his stomach. Perhaps this was the reason that he felt so badly every Christmas when Severus and Draco exchanged gifts that were just so perfect for one another. He felt left out, as if they shared something special in which he, Harry, wasn’t included.

Draco and Severus had been together before Harry had realised his own preferences and the two men had pursued Harry with relentless subtlety, suggesting meals together, drinks and spending increasingly more time with Harry before he had even realised he was being courted.

Eventually the penny dropped when he had been invited round to Malfoy Manor to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

As he arrived at the Manor, dark and imposing in the black night, shivering and stomping his boots free from snow, Harry questioned his reasons for being there. Malfoy and Snape had always incited emotions in Harry that no one else could, fierce anger which made his hands clench into fists and his blood boil. Lately that rage had dissipated and had begun to turn into something a little more disturbing.

Harry wasn’t sure when he had started to feel heat pool in his stomach when Severus fixed him with a dark stare or made a scathing comment in a silky voice, which held just the barest hint of teasing. He didn’t know when he had started to notice the man had a dry, sharp wit and toned, lean thighs.
Harry didn’t know when he had started seeing Draco as something other than an irritating prat, when he had begun to notice the value of Draco’s tireless research work or the way he held himself with pride, closing himself off from the rest of the world. He didn’t even want to start to process why Harry wanted to reach out to him every time that guard slipped.

He just knew that something had changed and he didn’t have a bloody clue what to do about it.

“Come in, Harry.”

The sight of Draco standing in the doorway wearing fitted grey wool trousers and a black turtleneck jumper made Harry’s breath catch and his palms felt sweaty as he had pushed past Draco and accidentally brushed up against a strong arm, catching a whiff of expensive, musky cologne.

“Oh, I bought something - to say thank you for having me. It’s called Blue Snakeroot.” Harry thrust a small potted plant towards Draco. It had caught Harry’s attention because it had deep royal blue leaves and it had looked so beautiful in the shop amongst the greens and browns and citrus colours. It reminded him of Draco; elegant and stunning. The thought of buying two Slytherins a plant with the word ‘snake’ in it was also too tempting for words.

“How…wonderful.” Draco turned to Severus who materialised in the doorway, his long legs crossed at the ankle and his arms folded across his chest. Even in Muggle clothes, Severus looked imposing, tall and lean. “Look what Harry bought us, Severus…” Draco was smirking at Severus who fixed a dark stare on Harry, making him shiver a little.

“Blue Snakeroot, Potter or Caesius Altissima is one of the most poisonous plants in the Wizarding World, if you have been stroking it’s leaves on the way over I suggest you wash your hands before sampling any canapés, as I really don’t fancy trying to save your life again.

“What?!” Harry looked at the pretty blue plant with a frown. “I really didn’t mean-”

“-Of course you didn’t, Harry. It was a lovely thought.” Draco was speaking in his most charming voice as he glared at Severus who snorted and turned to move from the hall into a smaller room, lined with books, plush leather sofas and an ebony grand piano. A huge fire crackled and Harry took a drink offered to him by Severus, sitting down on the sofa. He watched Draco pour his own drink and caught a look which passed between Draco and Severus as their hands touched almost imperceptibly. There was such an easy grace between the two of them and Harry longed to have that with someone.

“We should be ready to eat in an hour.” Severus sat down next to Harry on the sofa, his arm reaching out across the back of the sofa and almost brushing the back of Harry’s hair. The almost-touch made Harry shiver a little and he wanted to lean his head back and shuffle closer. To his surprise Draco came and sat on the other side of him, a little closer than Severus. Harry caught another look pass between the two of them and frowned into his drink.

“Is something wrong, Harry?”

Harry started at the words which Draco drawled into his ear, hot breath tickling at the lobe. He turned to look at Draco and found they were almost nose to nose. He couldn’t stop staring at Draco’s lips which looked soft and slim and desperately distracting. His heart rate quickened and he couldn’t be absolutely sure but it felt as if Snape had moved closer to him, as he felt the hard, firm heat of another leg pressed against his thigh.

“Why would something be wrong?”

Snape had definitely moved closer and Harry felt a firm hand on his thigh which made him gasp. Before he could ask what was happening, Draco was pressing his lips to Harry’s lips and he found himself moaning into a delicious kiss, tangling his hands in Draco’s soft hair and leaning in towards Draco, as close as he could get.

Feeling a rustling beside him, Harry barely registered that Snape had moved in between his legs as a confident hand worked at his belt as Harry continue to receive the kissing of his life from Draco.

“We want you, Harry, and not just for Christmas. Do you want us, too?”

Draco had pulled back from the kiss and Harry looked down at Severus, proud and defiant even on his knees. He looked at Draco who seemed so icy calm and cool, but whose eyes betrayed a hint of something else as he waiting for Harry to respond.

There really was nothing else for Harry to do but card a hand through Severus’ hair and use the other hand to pull Draco into a kiss.

Draco and Severus had spent the rest of the night showing Harry exactly how much he was wanted, and he hadn’t left their sides since.

“Come here.”

Severus’ voice startled Harry out of his thoughts. Snape looked at him from his place on a huge armchair and held out a hand. Harry saw a look flash between Draco and Severus, a look which spoke of a plan made together, reminding him of being back at Malfoy Manor three years ago.

Harry moved towards Severus, taking the outstretched hand. He let out a squeak as he found himself pulled down onto Snape’s laps and bundled into the man’s arms.

“I’m sorry my gifts are always so rubbish.” Harry buried his head in Snape’s neck, breathing in the familiar scent of cinnamon and sandalwood.

“You really are a little idiot.” Snape pulled Harry closer into his lap and kissed him fiercely. Harry moaned into the kiss and wiggled as he felt Draco come up behind him, carding a soft hand through his hair, wrapping his arms around Harry’s waist and leaning in to kiss Harry’s neck.

“I thought you were going to…” Harry’s words stuck in his throat, his heart hammering as Draco continued to trail kisses up and down his neck and he could feel Draco chuckle lightly into the crook of his neck as he arched to one side to expose more skin.

“What Harry, you thought we were going to leave you?” Draco’s mouth warm and hot moved from Harry’s neck to his ear.

“You have so much in common with all of the books and stuff and I get it wrong every year-umph!”
Harry was cut off as Severus pulled him into the kiss with a growl. Severus was not the kind of man to whisper sweet words of love and reassurance but he sure as hell kissed with every ounce of passion he had.

“Draco?” Snape pulled back, his eyes dark and flashing as he cast a look at Draco, who stood and returned with a small box, coming round to perch on the arm of the chair, putting an arm around Severus and looking intently at Harry, watching him open the small box.

“This year we thought we would get you a gift from both of us.”

Inside the box was a silver ring with the letters ‘S’, ‘H’ and ‘D’ entwined and engraved on the silver.

“See how you’re in the middle?” Draco slipped from the arm of the chair and moved back behind Harry again, arms sliding around his waist as warm lips moved back to his ear. Severus wrapped his arms around Harry’s waist so they settled over Draco’s arms and began to kiss the other side of Harry’s neck.

Harry felt Draco’s hand take his and Snape’s fingers carefully slide the ring onto his hand. He sighed at the feeling of Severus and Draco surrounding him and the cool metal circling his finger, feeling suddenly at peace.

“Did you look inside the gift I got for Draco, Harry?”

Harry opened his eyes to the book which Severus pressed into his hands which had made him feel so strange only moments before. He opened the book and ran his finger down the front page.

For Harry - “There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast”

Harry looked up at Severus who pulled him to his feet, where Draco caught him in a kiss. He wasn’t entirely sure what the quote meant but he figured he could ask Severus when the room was dark enough to convince Severus to tell him and then pretend Harry had imagined it the next day.

“We did have one more present for you.” Severus had dipped his head low and was whispering in Harry’s ear.

Draco began to kiss Harry again, hot fierce kisses as Harry felt the slide of satin over his eyes plunging the room into darkness. He felt strong hands work at this trousers and Severus steadying him with a firm grasp on his hips.

“This is always the present we most enjoy unwrapping, Harry.” Draco laughed at his own joke and Harry could feel himself grin.

“Oh shut up and suck me, Malfoy.”

Harry felt Draco fall to his knees and as the sensation of four hands on his body made him moan into kisses and touches, he knew Severus and Draco would always choose better gifts than he would.

As long as they always had space for him to be on the receiving end of his own gifts however, he really couldn’t care less.
