Harry walked along the pavement with his hands in his pockets and snowflakes gleaming like stars in his dark hair. Every window of every shop he passed was decorated for the holidays, and festive music spilled forth each time one of the shop doors opened.
Harry was on a mission to buy Draco the perfect Christmas gift. This would be their second Christmas together, but last year their relationship had still been new and in its casual phase. Now, however, Harry was hoping to make his relationship with Draco more permanent. Nerves fluttering with anticipation, Harry opened the door of the jewelers and stepped inside.

It was Christmas morning, and Harry was brimming with the joy of the season. He and Draco had begun their day with a leisurely shag in bed, followed by a breakfast featuring all of their favorite foods. Next, they had opened the gifts that had been sent to them by family and friends. Draco had presented Harry with a leather jacket, and Harry had given his boyfriend a cashmere jumper.
All that was left was for Harry to offer Draco his heart. He cleared his suddenly dry throat. "Draco, I-"
"I have one more gift for you," blurted Draco, looking somewhat bashful.
"You didn't need to get me anything else," Harry automatically protested. He was certain the jacket had cost a small fortune.
"It's a special gift," Draco said. He hopped up from the sofa and waded through the detritus of cast-off wrapping paper to retrieve a small box hidden in the boughs of their Christmas tree. Draco returned and sat next to Harry, saying, "Happy Christmas."
Harry took the proffered gift and paused to admire the exquisite wrapping. He spent a frustrating moment defeating the ribbon wound around the package before he was able to carefully unwrap his present. Harry found himself holding a small box, and he lifted the lid to reveal a plain gold band nestled in red velvet.
"Draco, what-"
"Will you marry me, Harry?"
Harry realized his mouth had fallen open, and he closed it again. He was teetering between delight that Draco had obviously been of the same mind in regards to their relationship and dismay that his own planned proposal had just been neatly upstaged.
"Harry, say something," pleaded Draco, his expression stricken.
Harry smiled at him. "I have your answer right here," he chuckled, reaching behind one of the pillows on the sofa to withdraw his special gift for Draco. He handed it to his boyfriend, eyes dancing with excitement.
"What is this?" asked Draco.
"Open it," said Harry, giving him a nudge.
Draco opened the gift with trembling fingers. His eyes were downcast, and Harry thought he detected a tiny quiver in his boyfriend's lower lip.
The gift wrap fell away from a box that was suspiciously similar to the one Draco had presented to Harry, and Draco glanced up at him in wonder.
"Open it," Harry repeated simply.
Draco lifted the top of the box and gasped at the sight of the plain silver band resting in its bed of green velvet.
"Draco, will you marry me?" Harry asked, voice gone husky with emotion.
Draco laughed, the sound joyous and carefree, and he pressed his lips to Harry's in a quick snog. "I'd be thrilled to marry you," he said. "That is, if you'll agree to marry me. I did ask first, remember?"
"Nothing would make me happier than to marry you," Harry told him, "even though you ruined my romantic proposal by popping the question before I could."
Draco laughed and cuddled close on the sofa. "There's only one question left," he said. "What will we do with two sets of rings?"
