Pansy took a sip from her steaming cup of chai tea and checked that she had everything she needed at hand. The gift she had purchased took center stage on the table, and it was flanked by wrapping paper, ribbon and scissors. This would be Pansy's first Christmas with someone whom she truly cared about, and she wanted everything to be perfect, including the gift she would be giving to her girlfriend.
Pansy had been a persona-non-grata in the wizarding world after the war. It seemed no one had forgiven her for wanting to turn Potter over to You Know Who. She had been subjected to everything from disdain to outright hostility. Only one person had looked past what Pansy had done and bothered to understand why she had done it. More importantly, she had forgiven Pansy for her transgression.
Pansy's lips curved in a dreamy smile. Her girlfriend was an extraordinary person, full of fun and laughter. She possessed an amazing lightness about her and an infectious love of life that had drawn Pansy to her like a moth to a flame. There were times that Pansy didn't know what she would have done without her, but she didn't like to think of how uninspired and colorless her life would be.
Setting aside her tea cup, Pansy drew the gift forward and placed it on the wrapping paper. She quickly cut the paper to the proper size and laid the tube of gift wrap on the floor next to her chair. Pansy took her time wrapping the small box. She wanted each crease and fold to be precise and flawless. Once the gift had been wrapped, Pansy used her wand to spell the edges together, eschewing Muggle tape. She took a moment to admire the gift in its bright blue wrapping patterned with snowflakes. Her girlfriend enjoyed snow and would love this particular choice of gift wrap.
Pansy picked up the silver ribbon and cut a length from the spool. She wound it around the gift and curled the ends to dangle in adorable coils. Next, Pansy used more of the ribbon to create a bow, which she spelled to the top of the gift.
Pansy carried the small gift to the front parlor of her home and placed it beneath the tree. Never before had she been so excited about giving a gift. Pansy had always been more concerned with what she received. This year, however, she didn't care what anyone may or may not give her. She had already received the most precious gift of all in a loving and supportive partner.
Her girlfriend had said something similar, stating that she had all she wanted and didn't need a gift for Christmas. Pansy had gone shopping for her any way. She had visited several jewelers in search of the most unique pair of earrings she could find. Pansy had finally settled on an absurd pair of googly-eyed reindeer that had real, jingling bells on their tiny harnesses. She was confident that Luna would love them.
