Christmas in July challenge?
Apr. 30th, 2010 08:31 amHi everyone!
I would like your opinion please. A couple of people have approached me about running a Christmas in July themed fest. We will definitely still be back later in the year for the proper holiday season, but I want to know what you all think of something fun being run at the end of July.
Christmas in July is basically an excuse for people to get together, having parties and such when they may not ordinarily be able to get together in December. We all know Draco, Harry and Neville have their birthdays in June and July.
We also know that the end of the war was never dealt with in DH, it went straight to the epilogue. What would happen if say Hermione was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was forced to attend a party of some description, but can no longer deal with crowds because she panics and freaks out. How does George deal with losing Fred? Or you could go with a fluffier option of everyone just having fun. Harry and Draco are having a combined Birthday party and inviting all their friends and family. You get the idea.
So my question is this:
Are you interested in a Christmas in July challenge?
How would you like us to handle it, do you want to be able to post your own entries when you're ready like
hp_kinkfest was run?
Would you like to have prompts like we did at Christmas or would you rather just have a theme and write what your muse tells you just involving the theme somewhere?
How long would you like the challenge/fest to run for?
Would you like the minimum word count abolished, so you can write 100 word drabbles etc.?
All opinions, suggestions will be gratefully received and considered.

Date: 2010-04-30 12:16 am (UTC)I'd go with being able to post your own entries. That way if you're a quick writer, you can post your story when your finished and not have to wait.
Go with prompts like we did at Christmas. There's an overall theme like Summer or something, and people can submit prompts and scenarios that authors can pick from.
Time would depend on the format, but 2 to 3 months at least.
I say get rid of the minimum word count. If someone wants to write 100 word drabble, I say let them.

Date: 2010-04-30 11:21 am (UTC)The posting your own entries idea would save me a lot of headaches trying to organise posting schedules and finding who wrote what to create the masterlist at the end of the fest.
Timeline wise, I'm hoping to have things finalised in the next couple of weeks and people can start working on their entries whenever they like from there with posting probably starting at the end of July.
Thanks for your suggestions, I really appreciate it!
