Severus had healed a lot in the years he was away. He was able to let go of the past and not torture himself over what role he played in Lily's death. Giving Harry the album was a symbol of letting go of the past completely and to forgive himself. In doing so he helped heal Harry and they were both able to find a new beginning with each other :)

I'm glad that the changes in Severus and Harry over the years was obvious, but that also their basic personalities were still there.
